Mary Canter

Mary Canter is an associate in the Washington, DC office of Copilevitz & Canter LLC. Her practice areas include tax exempt law and nonprofit organizations law, nonprofit tax law, copyright law, trademark law, entertainment, art and new media law. Mary has worked in service of musicians, songwriters, filmmakers, producers, fashion designers, start-ups, production companies, digital music distributors and more.

Mary volunteers her time as board member, associate general counsel and membership co-chair to Women in Music, a nationally-recognized 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to education, awareness, equality and empowerment of women in the music industry. She also participates with Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts.

Mary is a 2011 graduate of Brooklyn Law School, where she earned a certificate in Intellectual Property, New Media and Information Law. She is the 2011 recipient of the Charles and Jane Ortner Prize for Achievement in Entertainment law and the 2009 recipient of the CALI Excellence for the Future award in entertainment law. Prior to joining Copilevitz & Canter LLC, she worked for Pilobolus Dance Theater, a nonprofit creative arts organization with offices in New York, NY.
