Nika Watkins

An amplified crazy positive is the best way to describe Nika Watkins. Shes amplified because she loves life and is always extremely animated about it. Shes crazy, because shes not afraid to push life to the limit. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to step out on faith to get it. Shes positive because she truly is. She loves living on the bright side. If you ask her she’ll say its the happiest place on earth.

Nika Watkins is a 35 single Mother from Baltimore, MD. Growing up she was a military brat so she has lived in Kansas, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and even Germany. Over the years she attended many schools but graduated from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, IN back in 1994. In 2000 Nika obtained her bachelors degree in Communications/Public Relations from Morgan State University. She also has her Masters in Business Administration from American Intercontinental University.

As a child Nika was fascinated with broadcasting and often dreamed of becoming a radio announcer. She would sit in her rooms for hours pretending she was she was on air. Throughout high school Nika decided to be more practical and began to pursue a career in business when she was accepted into Grambling States University. Nika matriculated in business for 3 semesters before she decided that business wasn’t really for her.

In the fall of 1995 Nika got her first real live opportunity to make her child hood dream come true after being asked by a classmate to accompany him to his hip hop radio show. From here Nika was hooked and in 1996 she became one of three On Air Personalities of KGRMs weekend hip hop show. Nika did so well that in less than 6 months she was offered a midday spot at KGRM where she was on air Monday-Friday playing the latest Hip Hop and R&B.

In 1998 Nika transferred to Morgan State University where her career in communications soared even further. Nika had the opportunity to intern at both WEAA and WERQ and eventually was hired at both stations. Nika began making a name for herself as a Promotions Assistant/Board Operator at WERQ and an On Air Personality for Strictly Hip Hop at WEAA.

Eventually doing the both had become a task so Nika left WEAA to work at WERQ full-time. In 2000 Nika relocated to Atlanta and continued her career in broadcasting working for Cox Communications. Nika had the opportunity to work in several different positions at Cox one being Promotions Assistant for the companies Atlanta local radio stations. She was also a Board Operator to the #1 News Talk Radio station in Atlanta WSB.

In 2005 Nika was hired at Crawford Communications (now known as Encompass Digital Media) as a Media Relations Specialist for a division called DVIDS (Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System). DVIDS was created to provide an accurate, reliable source for media organizations to access U.S. service members and commanders deployed in support of military operations worldwide.

Here Nika began to grow as a Publicist and the PR Diva was born. After working with Crawford for two years Nika decided to leap on her on and became a freelance Publicist as well as an online instructor for University of Phoenix.

In August of 2009 Nika decided to relocate back to Maryland and begin a few new ventures in the process. In September of 2009 Nika began writing for the Examiner.com at the Baltimore Socialite Examiner. This jump started her urge to want to write more and from here she created her own blog. Nikas blogs were received so well that she started to receive request to guest blog for a number of other blog sites including Chic Complexity and 66Raw.

Even though Nika is still writing she still has not disconnected with her publicity background. In October of 2010 Nika launched her very own Public Relations boutique agency Nika Watts Media which is the source of a number of Public Relations and Media Relations services. So far Nika Watts Media has taken the DMV area by storm. Nika plans to emerge Nika Watts Media into a well noted Media Conglomerate within the next 5 years.
